Our take
This memory foam knee pillow is softer than the ComfiLife and can also go between the calves or under the knees for back sleeping. The American Chiropractic Association lists the brand as endorsed but doesn't say which products. Note that the strap shown in some photos isn't included.
Pros
- Brand appears on the American Chiropractic Association's endorsed list (products not named)
- Usable between knees, calves, or under knees
- Washable anti-pill cover
Cons
- No strap (listing explicitly notes strap in photo is not included)
- Standard size may be small for tall sleepers
- Healthline mention is for a different 5 Stars United product
Shape, size and the strap that isn't there
It's a compact hourglass knee pillow, close in size to the ComfiLife, and it doesn't come with a strap. The listing gives the size as 9.8 × 7.8 × 6 inches (about 25 × 20 × 15 cm), though the comparison chart further down the same page says 6.2 inches tall[1]. Either way, it holds your knees roughly 6 inches apart at most, the same as the Contour Legacy and a touch less than the ComfiLife's 6.3 inches[2,3]. The listing puts its weight at 0.39 kg (about 14 ounces) and marks it latex free[1]. The printed guide says to set it horizontally with its notch in the middle[4].
Look closely at the photos before you buy. Some show a blue band around the pillow, and the listing now spells out that the band is a visual marketing element, not part of the product[1]. Like the Contour Legacy and the ComfiLife, it stays between your knees by shape alone. If you roll over often, plan on adding a separate leg strap or retrieving it from under the covers now and then.
Soft memory foam that starts out firm
This is the softest of our knee pillow picks, but expect it to feel firmer for the first day or two. The listing describes soft memory foam under a breathable, anti-pill knit cover[1]. The printed use-and-care guide explains the catch. Memory foam can take up to 24 hours to recover its full size after unboxing, and the pillow may feel firm at first before it softens as it absorbs your body heat[4]. That's typical of memory foam, which softens with warmth[5]. Our research-based firmness rating is 5 out of 10.
Softness cuts both ways. The Polyurethane Foam Association notes that softer memory foam conforms more closely and spreads weight more evenly, which is what tender knees want. It also warns that very soft foam without enough density or thickness can bottom out[5], and 5 STARS UNITED publishes no density figure. If your legs are heavy and your knees nearly meet through the foam, you need a firmer or larger pillow, such as the ComfiLife or the Cushion Lab Large.
The positions it's sold for, and which make sense
Between the knees is the main event. The other positions are situational. The listing names four: between the knees, under the lower or upper leg, between the calves, and beneath the knees for back sleepers[1]. The printed guide adds between the shins, under the calves, under the thigh and even under the chest[4].
- Between the knees: the side-sleeping position, and the one the hourglass shape is built around.
- Between the shins or calves: useful as a second support. For outer hip pain, Alison Grimaldi and Angela Fearon suggest pillows at both the knees and the shins[6]. One pillow can only fill one of those gaps.
- Under the knees on your back: Cleveland Clinic suggests a small pillow under the knees to take some pressure off the lower back[7]. Expect comfort rather than a change in posture. In a small MRI study, a knee cushion made no appreciable difference to the lower back's curve[8]. 5 STARS UNITED also sells a separate half-moon Leg Pillow, 20.4 × 7.8 × 4.8 inches[1], which Healthline picked as its best knee pillow for back sleepers, though its writers didn't test it[9].
- Under one leg after surgery: read the knee replacement warning below before you prop an operated knee on it.
What the ACA endorsement and OEKO-TEX label mean
Both claims have something behind them, but neither tells you the pillow will ease your pain. The listing says the pillow is endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association[1]. The ACA's endorsements page does list 5 STARS UNITED, with a link to the brand's Amazon store, but it doesn't name the products covered. The ACA says endorsements follow review, analysis, testing and evaluation by a board of chiropractors, with final approval from its Board of Governors, and that evaluation takes about three months[10]. That's a professional quality review, not a clinical trial.
The OEKO-TEX claim is easier to verify. The certificate number on the Amazon listing, 22.HCN.25846[1], comes up as valid in OEKO-TEX's Label Check. It's a STANDARD 100 certificate held by Jiangsu Wellcare Household Articles, a manufacturer in China. It covers pillows and cushions made with polyester fabrics and polyurethane foam padding, in product class I[11]. STANDARD 100 means the materials were tested for harmful substances, and class I is the strictest class, the one used for baby products[12]. It says nothing about support. The listing also claims CertiPUR certification for the foam[1]. Genuine CertiPUR-US certification means the foam meets standards for content, emissions and durability, as analyzed by independent labs, and the program asks shoppers to check its directory of participating companies[13]. The listing gives no certificate details to check against that directory, and 5 STARS UNITED wasn't in it when we searched in October 2026[14]. Jiangsu Wellcare, the company named on the OEKO-TEX certificate, is listed as a producer of CertiPUR-US certified foam[15]. That's a good sign, not proof that this pillow's foam is a certified grade. The brand's declaration of conformity lists China as the country of origin[16].
Two smaller details are worth knowing. Amazon's certification panel for this listing also shows an OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN label, M24MD4B93[1]. Label Check says the product behind that label is no longer being manufactured and traces it to a different factory[17], so don't read it as a current claim about the pillow you'd receive. And the declaration of conformity says the pillow comes from a facility with an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and that its performance was evaluated with industry test methods for polyurethane foam[16]. It publishes no results from those tests.
Cover and heat
Expect the warmth of a solid foam block, softened a little by a breathable cover. The listing describes a soft, breathable knit cover over a memory foam core[1], and it mentions no ventilation holes or cooling gel. If you sleep hot, the Contour Legacy has air holes through its foam[18], and ComfiLife sells a cooling version of its knee pillow[19]. We found no independent test of either. Our cooling guide covers bedroom fixes that help with any pillow.
Washing, warranty and returns
Unzip the bottom, wash the cover cold, and keep the foam dry. The guide says to open the zipper on the bottom and slide the foam out, folding it if the cover resists. Wash the cover by hand or machine in cold water, 30°C (86°F), then dry it flat or hang it. Don't bleach, iron or dry-clean it, and never wash or dry the foam[4]. The listing adds: no tumble drying[1].
As for the warranty, 5 STARS UNITED offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and lifetime replacement, and says it will replace or refund your order with no questions asked. It sells through Amazon[20]. Writing about its half-moon pillow, Healthline suggested checking how the lifetime warranty applies to Amazon purchases[9], so keep your order details. We found no long-term durability test of this pillow. If the foam sags for good, contact the brand before you buy a new one: its stated replacement promise lists no exclusion for wear.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
It suits side sleepers whose knees are tender, bony or arthritic, and who find firm foam uncomfortable between them. Keeping your knees from pressing together is the simplest thing any knee pillow does, and a soft one does it without a hard edge. If knee osteoarthritis is part of your story, your hips may join in: in a US study of 3,026 older adults, knee osteoarthritis was linked with higher odds of outer hip pain on the same side[21]. The general evidence is on our knee pillow guide.
- Pregnancy: the listing pitches it at side sleepers and pregnant women[1], and the NHS suggests a pillow between your legs for pelvic pain in pregnancy[22]. A knee pillow covers only one of the supports ACOG describes for later pregnancy: a pillow between the knees, one under the belly, or a full body pillow[23]. When you want belly and back support too, a U-shaped or C-shaped pregnancy pillow handles it.
- After knee replacement: the listing markets it for post-knee-surgery recovery, and separately lists beneath the knees as a position for back sleepers[1]. Hospital for Special Surgery says the opposite for an operated knee: no pillow under it, and a towel roll under the heel so the knee rests straight[24]. Follow your surgical team.
- Outer hip pain: the goal is a top thigh that stays roughly level so the top hip isn't pulled into a compressed position[6]. A soft pillow that sinks under your legs works against that. If your hip is the main complaint, the firmer, longer Contour Legacy is the safer bet.
- Sciatica: an NHS specialist hospital recommends a small, firm cushion between the knees[25]. That points to the ComfiLife rather than this softer pillow.
- After hip replacement: Hospital for Special Surgery asks posterior-approach patients for at least two firm pillows between the legs[26]. One soft knee pillow doesn't meet that, so use what your team prescribes.
- Skip it if you're tall or heavy-set, if you need firm support, or if you roll over so often that a strapless pillow won't stay with you.
Setting it up
Unbox it straight away, give it a day to expand, and judge it after it has warmed up.
- Take it out of the packaging as soon as it arrives, lay it flat in a warm room with good airflow, and allow up to 24 hours for it to reach full size[4].
- Lie on your side and set it horizontally between your knees, notch in the middle[4].
- Expect a firmer feel on the first night. It softens as it warms to your body[4].
- Check that your top knee sits about level with your hip, so the top thigh isn't angled down[6]. If it still drops, the foam is compressing too far for your frame.
5 STARS UNITED vs our other knee pillows
Choose it for softness. Choose a rival for firmness, thigh coverage or size. We found no hands-on test of this knee pillow from a major review outlet. Healthline's pick from this brand was the half-moon pillow, not this one[9]. So the comparison below rests on published specs.
- ComfiLife: nearly the same footprint at 9.8 × 7.9 × 6.3 inches, but listed as medium firm[19]. The better pick for sciatica or heavier legs.
- Contour Legacy: longer, with a center incline that follows your thighs and ventilation holes through the foam[2]. The better pick if outer hip pain or heat is your main problem.
- Cushion Lab Large: for sleepers about 5′8″ and up who flatten standard knee pillows.
- A body pillow such as the Utopia Bedding: soft along its whole length, and it gives your top arm somewhere to rest as well. It takes far more of the bed, and it can't be lost down the side of the mattress as easily as a small block.
